In this Sepulcher, We Are Fed
University of Iowa Gallery Series, 2023
Playwright: Eli Campbell
Director: Michael Flores
Costume Designer
This project aimed to help develop a new work as a collaborative team. The costumes aimed to serve the developing world of the script.
Concept Statement
In The Sepulcher, We Are Fed captures the absurdity of gender and class roles by creating a universe that redefines both the decadence and horror of the 18th Century in a way that can only be described as humorous. The tongue-in-cheek irreverence of the dialogue creates endearing character dynamics that emphasize the parallels between the 1790s and the modern-day while paying adieu to the history of the French Revolution. To enforce these themes the costumes will take inspiration from the silhouettes of the 18th century meshed with the campy eclectic glam makeup and accessories of the 80s to create a new vocabulary for the characters and the scope of their world.
