Concept Statement
In the world of 12th Night, Viola finds herself in a seaside paradise where she is forced to flip who she is to survive. The comedic nature of the show creates a rapturous journey of love and expression that is best described as pure whimsy. With my set design, I want to invoke the image of small corners of a tiny seaside town that offer an intimate look at the community of the characters on stage. With the use of rotating scenic pieces, I look to create places for the performers to explore the world of their production and discover their own version of the humor of self-discovery that is prominent throughout the text.
